The rich cultural heritage of Ndigbo came to the fore last weekend, when Ndigbo from all walks of life, joined the traditional ruler of Nawgu in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Igwe George Okaa Onwuogu to celebrate the 2019 New Yam festival of the community.

The traditional ruler, Igwe Okaa -Onwuogu with members of his cabinet and heads of the six villages, as well as the entire community, gathered to thank God for yet another fruitful farming season.
The ceremony reached its crescendo when the traditional ruler prayed to God with the Kola nut, after a Mass to thank God for a great thing he has done.
Igwe Okaa_Onwuogu called on his subjects to embrace their culture which he described as their roots and identity.
The Member representing Dunukofia Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chief Lawrence Ezeudu, described Igwe Okaa-Onwuogu as a man of peace and courage.
Earlier in a homily during a mass, a visiting priest, Reverend Father Adolphus Chukwuka maintained that all good things come from God.
Felicitating with Igwe Okaa_Onwuogu,the traditional ruler of Uke in Idemili North Local Government Area, Igwe Charles Agballa, said that new yam festival is a unique tradition of Ndi Igbo which helps to promote culture and identity for younger generation to emulate.
For the Chairman Caretaker Committee, Nawgu Development Union, Reverend Samuel Ginikanwa, new yam festival is not fetish.
The festival witnessed, series of prayers to the community by the parish priest of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Nawgu, Reverend Father Herbert Ezeji. Paying of homage to Igwe Nawgu.
Uvie Music, Igba Eze dance and other side attractions added glamour to the festival.
