The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Chukwudi Ezeofor, JP, Ph.D, Ambassador of Peace, has been elected and inaugurated as the new National Chairman of the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion, EFAC Nigeria. Bishop Ezeofor was elected during the just concluded national convention of the group at Aba, Abia State.

The new EFAC leader in Nigeria, Right Reverend Ezeofor, served in Ogbaru Diocese for eleven years before being translated to Aguata Diocese on February 6, 2018. He was enthroned as the second Bishop of Aguata Diocese on April 3, 2018, following the retirement of the pioneer Bishop of the Diocese, Most Reverend Christian Efobi.

On assumption, Bishop Ezeofor introduced series of programmes in the Diocese. They include Fresh Grace from Above, Diocesan Night of Glory, Weep No More, and Potter’s Place project, among others.

Born on May 8, 1967, at Onitsha to Ichie Noel and Mrs. Juliana Ezeofor of Ezioko village, Oko in Orumba North local government area, Bishop Samuel, was the only child born ten years after the marriage of his parents. His parents relocated to Oko from Onitsha due to the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War, soon after his birth.

Like the Biblical Samuel, his parents exposed him to church life early in life. Thus, the young Samuel began early to participate in Church activities. He was so committed to the church that he was one of the few people at home selected and sent by his church at Oko to be trained in 1979 at the DCC Nnewi, as leaders of Anglican Praying Association (APA). Thereafter, Samuel came back to become the leader of the APA, Ezioko ‘B’ Branch. Later, in 1982, Samuel also received training as an officer of Boys Brigade at the DMGS, Onitsha.

The young Samuel, like his peers, began his academic journey in Okoko Primary School, Oko and later transferred to Central School, Oko in primary three as the custom was then. He completed his primary education in 1979 and went to Aguata High School, where he had three Alphas and five credits in the West African School Certificate Examination in 1985.

With this promising result, Samuel proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he read Religion with Special bias in Biblical Studies and Biblical languages. He graduated with first Class Honours Degree of the University in 1990. The National Youth Service Corps Scheme took him to Ibadan. Thereafter, he enrolled in the University of Ibadan for his Masters degree. He came out as the best graduating student of that department in 1992.

In quick succession, Samuel proceeded to Immanuel College of Theology, which he completed in 1994. As usual, he came out of the College with the best result of the year and the only distinction grade of the year. Samuel bagged his Doctorate degree in 2000.

Bishop Samuel Chukwudi Ezeofor is a social person. He is kind hearted, always ready to assist and help people, even to his own discomfort. He wears a characteristic smile that endears him to people. He keeps friends, including his childhood and boyhood friends and more.

Bishop Ezeofor found his heart-throb, Chinyere Huldah, then an undergraduate at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Chinyere is the daughter of late Catechist Julius and Mrs. Caroline Chukwuka of Umuagu, Nnobi.

No doubt, God prepared, built and kept her for Samuel. They got married on Saturday, November 5, 1994. God has blessed them with lovely children.

Bishop Samuel Chukwudi Ezeofor, whose home church is Saint John the Divine Church, Oko in Aguata Diocese of the Anglican Communion, is the second Bishop of Oko extraction; the first being late Right Reverend Rowland N.C. Nwosu of Asaba Diocese. He is also the third Bishop of Old Aguata extraction.

So, as Aguata Diocese marks its fourteen years anniversary tomorrow, September 4, 2019, the clergy and congregation of the Diocese should use the period in praying for Bishop Samuel Ezeofor and his wife, Chinyere (Nnechukwunyere) as they pilot the affairs of both Aguata Diocese and the Evangelical fellowship in the Anglican Communion EFAC Nigeria.
