Justice Manasseh Anyachebelu has been sworn in as the Acting Chief Judge of Anambra State.
Governor Willie Obiano performed the ceremony at the State Exco Chambers, Government House, Awka.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana who witnessed the ceremony reports that the swearing in of the New Acting Chief Judge follows the recent retirement of Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu as the State’s substantive Chief Judge.
Justice Anyachebelu is presently the most senior judge in Anambra State.
Performing the swearing in ceremony, Governor Obiano who stressed that stability is needed in the advancement of democracy and provision of dividends of good governance to ndi Anambra, called for increased collaboration between the Judiciary and other arms of government, urging him to stand for justice at all times.
While asking the new Chief Judge to help solve the problem of having too many people awaiting trial, the Governor Obiano thanked the immediate past Chief Judge for her service to the State, pointing out that she brought a lot of revolutions to the State judiciary and tasked Justice Anyachebelu to sustain the tempo.
In her remarks, Commissioner for Justice and the State Attorney General, Barrister Uju Nwogu reiterated the interest of the State government in the affairs of staff of the Judiciary, both serving and retired, and commended the Governor for sponsoring all the programs initiated by retired Justice Onwuamaegbu.
Justice Anyachebelu who recalled that he started his career in Anambra, thirty five years ago said that the task ahead is onerous, but can be summounted with all hands on deck, soliciting for the same hand of fellowship given to the immediate past Chief Judge be extended to him.
Some members of the State Executive Council including Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Primus Odili, members of the Bar and Bench, among others, witnessed the ceremony.
