The Divisional Police Officer, Otuocha Division, Chief Superintendent of Police CSP Innocent Umerie says the Police are committed towards ridding the zone of crime and criminalities.


CSP Umerie stated this at Erico House Aguleri, during the second meeting of the Aguleri Youth Progressives Union (ANYA) . Amaka Chibuzor Okoye reports that the meeting which aimed at sensitizing the youths on the inherent dangers of drugs and criminalities attracted all the branch leaders of the youths, men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA and other stake holders within the community.


Mr. Umerie said it is very important to sensitize the youths talk to know what constitutes crime so as to distance themselves from it.
He asked them to be proactive and vigilante in their areas, as well as help to disseminate useful information in sanitizing the area and ridding it of bad eggs.


He stated that his division has set up a task force to monitor and arrest anybody involved in assault, crime and molestations of innocent residents of the area.


The Principal Staff Officer, Drug Demand Reduction Unit of the NDLEA, Mrs. Chinwe Thompson, cautioned them on the dangers of drug abuse which she noted leads some to prison and health challenges, adding that their unit renders rehabilitation and treatment of those affected by drugs.
The President of Aguleri Youth Progressives Union, Comrade Nnamdi Ikeli lamented that the increase in the rate of abuse of Indian hemp and other drugs by youths has become worrisome which necessitated the meeting.


On her part, Iyom Phina Okechi-Nweke who is in charge of female youths, lamented that their youths have deviated, causing high rate of immorality, especially prostitution and drug abuse, calling on parents to go back and remould their wards as Ndi Aguleri were not known for such character.
A seven man electoral committee was inaugurated by the secretary of the union, Comrade Emeka Chinwuba, headed by Barrister Ifeanyi Iloakasia.
