Following the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African immigrants in South Africa, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Uche Okafor says, if the situation is not checked immediately, it will affect the diplomatic relationship between the two countries as well as development in this part of the world, urging Africans to see themselves as one which according to him, will enable them to collectively fight against poverty.

The Speaker in an interview with the ABS condemned the act in its entirety and called on Nigerians not to see reprisal as the best option.

On his part, An APGA stalwart, Chief Nze Emeka Olisa who called on the federal government to be more strict with the matter noted that the act is against the fundamental human rights and urged the African Union to spell a big sanction for the South Africans.

He regretted that the South African President is not being vocal on the matter, regardless of the fact that Nigeria was at the forefront during their fight for freedom.

Recalled that Nigeria among other African countries had pulled out of the ongoing world economic summit holding in Cape Town following this unfortunate incident and also recalled their ambassador to South Africa while the Nigeria biggest Airline, Air Peace has offered to bring home any Nigerian living in South Africa that is willing to return home without payment.

He stated that this has gone a long way to show government and individuals great concern about the safety of Nigerians across the globe.

Our correspondent who sampled the opinion of some stakeholders and other concerned citizens reports that considering the current state of the Nigeria’s economy, many wonders what happens to the welfare of these Nigerians when brought back home as most of them have  lost their means of livelihood following the attack.
