Pharmaceutical Association Of Nigerian Students Holds Students Week At Agulu

Pharmacists have been charged to be in the vanguard of the fight against abuse, misuse, underuse and overuse of drugs.

The member representing Aguata one in the State House of Assembly and the Chairman House Committee on Health, Mr. Nnamdi Umeh, made this call in Agulu during the student week opening ceremony of Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Agulu campus.

Mr. Umeh represented by the Head of Political Science Department, TANSIAN University Umunya, Mr Tony Ngonadi, noted that Pharmacists remain the key element if the society is to be rid of drug abuse.

He charged them to always abide by the principles of their profession in discharging their duties, urging the students to remain hardworking in order to emerge as the bests while pledging his support at all times.

Earlier in his opening remark, the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Ikemefuna Uzochukwu, represented by the Staff Adviser, Mr. Ikenna Ezemokwe who advised the players in the pharmaceutical industry to make use of certified professionals in the Health Sector, especially the pharmacists, in the distribution of their products.

On his part, the key note speaker, Pharmacist Henry Iloh, while discussing the topic, “Preparing Next Generation Pharmacists on the Fight Against Antibiotics Resistance“, warned that antibiotics, if not used properly leads to multiplication of bacteria in the system.

He called for a collaboration between every stakeholder in the health sector, the government and consumers of those drugs to help curb the menace.

The President of the Association, Mr. Akachukwu Nnoyelu had earlier called on Pharmacists to be more committed to the service of humanity and to the things that will positively affect the society rather than putting their personal interest ahead of the professional ethics, while praying for the continuous growth of the Association.

Also in attendance were the member representing Anaocha one in the State House of Assembly Mr. Ebele Ejiofor, the Permanent Secretary, office of the secretary to the State government, Pharmacist Emma Ude Akpe Among others.

The 2019 PANS students’ week which has its theme as “Pharma-Evolution,” was used to mark the tenth anniversary of the Association.
