The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP John Abang has visited the scene of accident along Ideani -Nnobi road in Idemili South Local Government Area.
The multiple accidents which occurred on the tenth of September at about eight o’clock in the evening involved a Petroleum Tanker MACK with Reg No. LEH 37 XA, a Mercedes Benz lorry with Reg XM 370 ENU, an L300 bus with Reg No. XG 680 FGG and a J5 bus with Reg No NH 148 ARL plunged into River Nnobi along with its occupants as a result of the accident.
In a release signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed, Police patrol team led by Dpo Nnobi Division visited the scene, rescued the victims and rushed them to Moon and Fatima hospitals Nnobi with the assistance of people.
According to the release no life was lost as the nine victims are responding to treatment while one of them who is critically injured was admitted at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
The release said that the driver of the Mercedes Benz lorry, Mr James Eze who is thirty years old and lived at number six Eze lane Okpoko was alleged to be the main cause of the accident and was arrested while the case is still under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
The release further said that, the Commissioner of Police also visited scene of the collapsed three storey building located at Number twenty-two Nkisi Aroli street, Onitsha belonging to one Mr Chukwuma Njeka,
The building collapsed due to heavy downpour but no casualty was recorded and value of property damaged is yet to be ascertained.
The Commissioner of Police according to the release, also visited the Onitsha custodial centre formerly known as Onitsha prison where the rear fence of the prison also collapsed at about six thirty in the morning following heavy downpour.
It stated that the CP ordered for immediate deployment of Police personnel to secure the Area but no casualty was recorded and no inmates escaped due to the collapsed fence.
The CP also visited the scene of fatal accident involving a commuter bus with Registration number JMT 94 XL and 911 truck with registration number XB 733 GDD at Boromeo roundabout which occurred yesterday at eight o’clock in the morning.
The release further said that Police personnel attached to inland town Division rushed the five casualties to St Charles Boromeo Hospital, Onitsha where one male victim whose identity is yet to be ascertained was certified dead by the medical doctor, while four others are responding to treatment.
The Corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination while the case is under investigation.
