Anambra State government has said that the welfare of the state work force remains paramount to the policies of the present administration.


The state Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu, stated this in Awka while declaring open the seventh quadrennial delegate conference and meeting of the schools and colleges ,trade group council of the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions “NASU”.


Barrister Udu, who noted that Anambra State abides by principles of equity, assured the union of prompt response to the issues that will arise from the conference communiqué.


He commended the union leadership for their matured approach to issues which according to him has helped in sustaining the cordial relationship between the union and the state government.
In a remark, the NASU National President, Comrade Chris Ani while charging members to remain duty bound, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to see his victory at the tribunal as a call to service noting that Nigerian’s expectations are very high.


He further stressed the need for speedy implementation of the new minimum wage both at the federal, state and the private sector as the situation of workers in the country needs urgent attention.
Earlier in a welcome address, the state Council chairman, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, commended the state government and the office of the Head of Service for the cordial relationship with labour unions and appealed for peculiarly allowance among others.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, who was represented by Mr. Raymond Ofor pledged continued support to labour unions which she described as fundamental in the development of education in the state.


Dignitaries that graced the occasion included the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, represented by the Director of Administration, Office of the SSG, Mrs. Elsie Oputa, State NLC chairman, Comrade Jerry Nnubia, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Godwin Ibekwe, Senior Deputy General Secretary NASU headquarters Abuja, Comrade Alhassan Mohammed among others.
