World Water Monitoring  Day was established in 2003 by American’s Clean Water Foundation
as a global Educational Outreach Program.

Amaka Chibuzor Okoye reports that  World Water Monitoring Day celebrated every eighteenth of September
aims at building public awareness and involvement in protecting water
resources around the world by empowering citizens to carry out basic
monitoring of their local water bodies.

Speaking on the significant of the day, the Commissioner for Public
Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne said that the state government
through the Ministry  has designed water master plan and ninety
percent of the communities in the state have benefited from the
projects in sustaining good and portable drinking water.

He maintained that a lot have been done in water aspect and  that the government was 
fashioning ways to protect it including  the constitution of a committee to
monitor and safe guard all the projects  and encouraging communities
to take ownership of all the projects.

Engineer Ezenwanne further used the opportunity to call on Ndi Anambra
to desist from vandalizing government projects as it is meant for
their good.

 The Acting Director Water Resources, in the Ministry, Engineer Victor
Ezekwuo said the day which is observed annually harps on the need to
drink clean water.

Engineer Ezekwuo maintained that they have a good water safety plan
and when harnessed Ndi Anambra will continue to live healthy life and  advocated 
that all the projects be utilized and managed by communities.

An environmentalist, Miss Judith Onwuzulike said that water is life
and should be protected as unclean water leads to sickness advising
that before consumption, one should ensure that it is clean.
