The Anambra State Government has demolished properties and reclaimed
encroached government land in Isiagu community, Awka South local
Government area.

The exercise which was carried out  simultaneously  by men of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority ACTDA and Development Control Team witnessed demolition of both fenced and ongoing  building projects at
various lands in the area.

The  alleged  illegal occupants were before the demolition exercise issued
remove  order by the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority to
remove the structures  and reinstate the land to its original state
within seven to fourteen days from the date of the order.

Speaking to the ABS shortly after the demolition exercise, the
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA Venerable
Amechi Okwuosa while urging developers to confirm status of lands
before payments from the various designated agencies in charge of
lands or the ACTDA office said that it has become a common practice for
community members to  encroach into  government properties.

Venerable Okwuosa reminded developers that it is no longer business as
usual as any further encroachment on government or individual
properties and lands will attract serious sanctions from relevant authorities  as the state is known for
peace and orderliness, wondering why some mischief makers are bent in
causing confusion  in the state.

The ACTDA Boss made it clear  that government has an
overriding interest on every land in the state and stated  that it is wrong
and illegal for individuals to encroach on government lands.
