Couples have been advised to complement the efforts of each other in
raising responsible families.
This was the central point of a-one-day marriage colloquium on
“Strengthening Marriage and Family Values”.
The programme held at the Professor Kenneth Dike Central E-
library, Awka, was organized by the crew of the Anambra Broadcasting
Service’s radio and television programme, “Our Values”.
Blessing Uchendu reports that family is the primary unit and centre of the society that provides a stable and
supporting home for people of all ages by upholding and reinforcing
core moral and social values necessary for building a progressive
society.
Speaking on the topic “Mutual Respect and Understanding: Antidote for
Domestic Violence”, the Deputy Director, School of General Studies,
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr Bekky Adirika, said that lack of
mutual respect and understanding lead to most domestic violence, and
called on all to make God first in their respective families.
The Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK on Academic
Matters, Dr Kingsley Ubaoji, whose lecture centered on the management
of third- party influence in marriage, noted that marriage demands
maturity and advised couples to avoid third -party interferencein their marriages, in order to enjoy a peaceful home.
On her part, a member of the ABS staff, Mrs Nneka Ekwunife, who is
also one of the organizers of the programme, challenged couples to
demonstrate God’s love to the people around them and encouraged
parents to nurture and raise their children well for a better society.
The convener of the seminar and also a Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor of Anambra State on Social Re- Orientation, Dr Mitchelle
Onugbolu, said that her love to bring families together and passion to
sustain marriages were the inspiration behind the project and
appreciated the management of ABS for their continuous support to the
successes recorded by the programme so far.
Some spouses who participated in the seminar, including Mr. Uche Ndukwe and
Mrs Muonwe Chijioke, expressed delight at the privilege of taking part
in the session and promised to put all they had learnt into practice
for better and happier marriage.
Question and answer sessions, as well as a drama by “Madam Salo”; an
ABS radio and television comedy crew, to demonstrate the lessons of
the seminar, were also part of the programme.
