Ndigbo have been asked to be their brother’s keeper to accelerate development and growth of the race.


The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, gave the charge at the 2019 world Igbo day celebration in Abuja.
Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja bureau reports that the annual celebration with the theme, “Udo maka oganiru ndi Igbo” was well attended by Igbo communities from all municipal councils in the Federal Capital Territory.
Men, women and children from each community gorgeously dressed in colourful attires, trooped out with their own musical instruments and displays and entertained the guests.


Addressing the gathering, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Onu said that God loves the Igbo race hence all the gifts He bestowed on them.
Dr Onu, urged ndi Igbo to love themselves and assist one another just like the Igbos of old who cooperated for the good of the race.


In his welcome speech, the Chairman Ohaneze, Abuja chapter, Chief Odozi Nwodozi, said peace is the purveyor of development and as such, all should embrace it for the growth and development of the Igbo race while the chairman of Abuja Municipal Traditional Rulers Council, Dr.
Uche Egenti, charged Ndi Igbo to play politics of inclusion rather than that of exclusion while upholding brotherliness which cannot be divided by party affiliation.


Earlier, the Chairman on the occasion, Professor Kenneth Ofokansi of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, said Ndi Igbo must re-strategize, teach their children the language and culture to chart a new course for the race in Nigeria.


Some guests who spoke to the ABS, including Barrister Ogechukwu Okafor from Anambra State, the traditional ruler of Isikwuato, Eze Christopher Emenike-Aboh and the traditional ruler of Neni Igwe Damian Onwuamaeze who prayed with the kola Nuts, while advocating the use of Igbo language to save it from going into extinction, called on the Igbos to form a formidable force so as to speak with one voice at all times.
The celebration was an opportunity for recognizing Igbo sons and daughters who had excelled in their various fields of endeavour.
