Anambra State has been selected for the 2019 Presidents Teachers and Schools Excellence Award.
The Commissioner for Basic Education Professor Kate Omenugha who disclosed this in an interview with the ABS in Awka said that the award will be presented to the State in Abuja today on the occasion of this year’s World Teachers Day celebration.
Professor Omenugha said Anambra state will receive the twenty nineteen President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award in four categories, which includes, the best administrator, the best teacher in private school, the best junior secondary school teacher and the best secondary school.
On how the state qualified for the award Professor Omenugha, said the federal Ministry of education overtime set out a quality assurance indices, where those who have done well within the framework of the indices will be rewarded.
Reacting to the development the chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission Lady Ify Okaro, said it was not a surprise that Anambra is selected for the award, giving that the state through the motivation of education friendly Governor has been on the front burner both nationally and internationally.
For the State Chairman Nigerian Union of Teachers Comrade Nonye Chibueze, the award is a welcome development.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education Science and Technology Professor Theresa Obikezie, * while applauding the wonderful exploits in the education sector, lrxorssjoptimistic that the standard of education in the State is gradually climbing the ladder of international best standard.
Teacher’s day celebration which is traced to 1996, was organized by UNESCO in collaboration with International Labour Organization, to recognize teachers as key to a sustainable Development.
