The need to inspire students and youth through sharing of ideas and stories to change their narratives was stressed at a one day maiden programme organized by TEDx in Awka.
TEDx is a non-profit Organization that runs on ideas and experience sharing in order to bring about innovative and community change.
The programme held at Ọma event centre Awka, had a host of talented poets, writers, public speakers and artists who featured in music performances, fascinating discussions, dance and lectures.
With the theme “Changing the narrative” the programme created fora where participants discussed issues bothering the society and ways to set it on a prosperous path for the future.
Speaking at the event, the Anambra state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Development, Mr. Mark Okoye, disclosed the imperative of bringing young people up through acquisition of
knowledge, gotten from sharing of ideas with experts and coming up
with the innovative ways and solutions to address social issues in the
society.
In a presentation, the President General, Ohanézè Ndígbo, Chief John Nnia- Nwodo whose lecture was titled “Understanding the Igbo Identity in the twenty-first century”, said that the success of any nation is to acquire a new personality, behaviour and morality.
He stressed the need to invest in digital technology as a way out of global challenges facing the country.
Earlier, the licencees of TEDx Awka, Mrs. Chizoba and Chinelo Obidigbo, stressed that TEDx initiative is not just to change the narratives of the present Ndị Anambra but also of that of the future
generations.
Lectures on various topics like “Women getting ahead in the investment
sector” by Mrs. Phillipa Mark-Okoye, “the untold story of depression by Mr. Ameh Zion and recitation of poems by Miss Chisom Udeoba, among others, featured during the event .
