Pace of work on the International Conference Centre at Agu Awka has accelerated.
Governor Willie Obiano who paid an unscheduled visit to the site,
announced that the project which has about eleven thousand capacity,
will be ready for use in April 2020.
Government House correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that when Governor Obiano arrived the site, sand filling of the building has
been completed, while concreting and most of the pillars have been
erected.
Workers were seen mounting the adjourning walls round the building
which will be gradually sand filled.
The center among other facilities, will house a restaurant, kitchen and stage, among others.
According to the Governor, even though the contractors gave March 2020
as date for the project delivery, he decided to give it one month
extension to ensure quality job.
Governor Obiano who harped on the economic importance of the project
expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Mike Okonkwo, who explained that the
DPC had been concluded, noted that what stands the project out is its
location, capacity and it’s multi-purpose facility, among others, pointing out
that it will generate more income for the State, as well as create
direct and indirect jobs.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, his Youth
Entrepreneurship and creative economy counterpart Mr Afam Mbanefo,
among others were part of the visit.
