Wife of the Governor of Anambra State and founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano, has visited a seventeen-year-old suspected cancer patient, Miss Francisca Chukwuemeka currently admitted at the Female Surgical Ward of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku.

Dr Obiano who was represented by the Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare Children and Women Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mezue said the visit was a follow-up to the just-celebrated International Day of the Girl Child and Cancer Awareness Week, which was marked in the State last week.

Miss Chukwuemeka, who hails from Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area who should have been in Senior Secondary School One according to her mother, started having sores and wounds on her right breast shortly after giving birth.

The girl who could have been in class at Kurudu Secondary School, Abuja, was moved down to the village by her Mother, who is a widow after her illness started deteriorating.

Medical practitioners who are currently overseeing her situation say the nature of the health issue could off-handedly be assumed to be cancer, but were not specific pending the outcome of laboratory tests.

The Governor’s Wife, who had initially gone round, presenting gifts and consoling the patients at the ward, said the visit was a way of showing support to the patient in line with the emphasis the leadership of the state, and her Non-governmental Organization, CAFE, place on the health needs of every Anambra resident.

Mr Ifeanyi Okeke, a Nursing Supervisor of the ward explained that while preliminary treatments had been carried out on the patient to control further spread of the ailment on the breast, results of the laboratory tests were still being awaited to know the exact ailment.

The Girl’s mother, Mrs Anna Chukwuemeka could barely hold back tears as she thanked Dr Obiano for extending her Maternal love to her child and the family.
