The Anambra State Environmental Action Campaign and Enforcement Team, Dobe Anambra Ocha, Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers, Onitsha North Local Government Area has served notice of court summon to about eight buildings at Oloh and Maduegbuna Streets, Omagba Phase one, Onitsha.The court summon was in connection with series of alleged environmental offences committed by the occupants of these buildings.


The environmental offences allegedly committed include, connecting the sewage system of their buildings into the drainage system, dumping of refuse into the drains, resulting to blocked drainage channels, dilapidated soak away system as well as dirty environment.


Posting the court summon, the Director Environmental Health Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mrs. Elizabeth Ezeilo, disclosed that the buildings have been served Abatement Notices before obtaining the court summon after the expiration of the Abatement Notices due to the environmental and health hazards posed by their actions to the people of the areas, adding that the developers are expected to appear before the court on twenty-fifth October 2019. 


Reacting, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment and Coordinator  Dobe Anambra Ocha, Anambra North Team, Mr.  Bonbry Obi-Okoye said they were directed by the State Government and Commissioner of Environment, Mr. Obi Nwankwo to visit the area for first hand information and condemned the attitude of the property developers. 
Mr. Obi Okoye who stressed the need to maintain a healthy environment said that Dobe Anambra Ocha team in the state is bent at getting it right, adding   that the court summon was on the heels of series reports from different quarters concerning the Pollution. 


The team had on arrival visited the office of the Parish Priest, Holy Spirit Catholic Church Omagba Phase one, Reverend Father George Meoba who commended the State Government for giving Governance a human face and called for the collaboration of all to sanitize the State. 
Among the team were other Special Assistants to the Governor on Environment, Mr.  Ugochukwu Okeke and  Barrister Miriam Omeni among others.


It could be recalled that the Managing Director Anambra State Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation Agency, Mr. Chido Obidiegwu visited the Street on an inspection and promised to take necessary action.
