Pharmacists have been charged to establish a robust system to ensure quality and effective service delivery.
Governor Willie Obiano gave the charge during the Twenty- Seventh Annual Conference of the Pharmaceuticals Society of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, at the Golden Tulip Hotels Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area.
While the conference open, Governor Obiano who was represented by the member representing Anambra East at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chief Obinna Emenaka a Pharmacist, commended members of the association for the strategic job they are rendering to the society assuring that his administration will always partner the association to help drive the aspiration of Anambra State in becoming the best in terms of health care delivery.
He said that plans were already in the pipeline to create a pharmaceutical park in Anambra State, to ensure that they are doing their business with ease.
The conference which attracted pharmacists within Anambra State, including the Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Nnamdi Okafor, was an avenue for members of the association to appraise their performances, successes and shortfalls with a view to improving on their service delivery, as well as to work together with the global best practice.
In a keynote address, a guest lecturer from the United States, Dr Chigozie Anyakora, regretted that Nigeria still imports about seventy per cent of the finished pharmaceutical products, a downturn which confirm the statistics that the country has the highest death rate in the world after India and called for urgent development of strategic plan to revive the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry.
Earlier in an address, the State Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Chief Patrick Obi and Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Chief Chiadichiem Ikebudu, called for more collaboration amongst members of the healthcare providers for overall interest of the patients.
On his part, the Chairman on the Occasion, Dr Emmanuel Ude-Akpeh, urged his colleagues to give their best to the service of humanity in order to raise healthcare delivery to an enviable level.
The Conference which has its theme as ” Disruptive Innovation: Leadership and Capacity Building Quality Assurance As a Tool,”
featured unveiling of the pharmacy calendar.
