Achalla, the headquarters of Awka North Local Government Area went agog yesterday, as the traditional ruler of the Community, Igwe Alex Nwokedi celebrated his 2019 new yam festival in grand style.


Youths of the community had earlier matched to the palace of Igwe Nwokedi, signaling the people of the area that the time is right for the festival.


Breaking the kolanut Igwe Nwokedi thanked the people of Achalla for their peaceful coexistence and prayed for a bountiful harvest.


The Member Representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, at the National Assembly, Chief Chinedu Onwuaso while felicitating with the people of Achalla prayed God to continue to give Igwe Nwokedi long life and sound health.


The National Chairman of APGA, Dr. Victor Ike Oye who was given the chieftaincy title of Obata Obie of Achalla described Igwe Nwokedi as a traditional ruler per excellence, and assured that the Anambra State government will commence aggressive construction of roads across the State after the rainy season, including those in the Community.
The traditional ruler of Omor, In Ayamelum local government area, Igwe Chris Chidume described Igwe Nwokedi as a shining light.


The Member representing Awka North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chief John Nwokoye and the President-General of the Community, Chief. Boniface Chigbo said that they are happy with the festival..
Paying of homage by different quarters and friends, masquerade display among others added glamour to the event.
