The National Cash Transfer unit Abuja, has organized a stakeholders meeting in Anambra state with a call for improved synergy between the federal and state governments in cash transfer program for more positive results.


The event which held at the Traditional Rulers Council Chamber, Government House Awka, attracted local government chairmen, representatives of some Ministries in the state, Traditional Rulers, government functionaries, among others, was aimed at reminding the stakeholders of their various roles in ensuring the sustainability of the program which over eight thousand persons are already benefitting in Anambra state.


The National Cash Transfer unit is an agency in charge of cash transfer program which is under the social investment program of the President Mohammadu Buhari led administration, aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the poorest of the poor and most vulnerable in the society.


Through the cash transfer program, the federal government pays five thousand naira monthly to some vulnerable persons selected mostly from the hinterlands across states in the country.


In her remarks, the National Program Coordinator, Conditional Cash Transfer Program, Dr. Temtope Sinkaiye who expressed dissatisfaction with the level of cooperation of the state and local government in fulfilling their various responsibilities as contained in the cash transfer program memorandum of understanding, described the cash transfer program as one of the social investment programs of the federal government that targets at lifting the poor and vulnerable out of poverty.


In a welcome address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Investments, Lady Chinwe Iwuchukwu while describing the program as apt in the current economic realities in the country, commended the federal government for instituting such measure to ameliorate the sufferings of the less privileged across the country.


Also Speaking, the Head Anambra state Cash Transfer Unit, Mr. Raphael Enukorah commended the state government for numerous support given to the state cash transfer unit, and listed funding, more offices, vehicle as some of the pressing needs of the unit.


Responding, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke assured that the government will do the needful to ensure that the state continue to benefit from the program, and proposed to organize another meeting with the stakeholders in the state on how best to make the scheme work better.


On his part, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala represented by Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. John Ndibe expressed hope that Nigeria would through the program seize from being the world capital for poverty, and promised that the health ministry will endeavour to play its part for the success of the second phase of the program which focuses on improvement of the health status of the citizenry.
