Women have been urged to go for regular checkups as a way of detecting early and checkmating the increase of cancer.
The advice was given during a road walk to mark the end of the breast cancer awareness month, organized by the ASHA Cancer Foundation.
During the road show which kicked off at “Paul University, Awka, through Eke-Awka market, down to Aroma Junction, Unizik Junction and terminated at Kwata Junction, Awka, the organizers of the programme and corps members shared flyers with different captions to promote advocacy and war against the scourge of cancer, especially among women.
Women were also availed clearer insight into the nature, control and prevention of breast cancer, which is the commonest among them.
Speaking during the walk, a survivor of breast cancer, who is also the Founder of ASHA Cancer Foundation, Mrs. Ijeoma Kaine, said the walk was in support of advancing breast cancer advocacy, education and awareness, and gave insights into her fight with the virus.
She called on the people to take adequate care of their health and avoid habits or foods that could cause cancer.
Some of the Supporters of the foundation, including, Mrs. Esther Onyekwuluje and Mrs. Chinwe Onukwube, charged women to see cancer as one of the biggest health threats in recent times, and to explore every medical process to defeat the disease.
