Ndi Anambra have been urged to explore the emerging opportunities in rice farming and other Agricultural value chain to harness the potential in the sector.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, the National Chairman of Willie Obiano support Group, Chief Jude Emecheta, said the visionary initiative of Governor Obiano in repositioning Agriculture as one of the pillars of his development blue print and empowering rice farmers through various interventions, have launched the state on course of becoming one of the leading rice producers in the country and entire sub-Sahara Africa.
Paul Ezeoke reports that Chief Emecheta noted that with the closure of national borders and strict control of rice importation, the state government’s rice programme which has remarkably increased the tones of annual rice production in the state, would not only cushion the effect of the ban on rice importation but would also accelerate the state’s drive to achieve food sufficiency and expand export capacity as well as create employment opportunity as enduring solution to the challenge of unemployment.
He noted that the present transformation of the Agricultural sector would also enhance pace of industrial development with ready raw materials for allied industries and expressed satisfaction that Governor Obiano’s administration is providing the necessary infrastructure at the various agricultural belts and has commenced mass reconstruction of roads eroded during the intense rainy season this year.
Chief Emecheta enjoined politicians to avoid destructive criticisms and campaign of calumny against the government geared towards achieving cheap publicity as according to him, the present administration is resolute and determined to uplift the lives of the people through adequate distribution of democracy dividends.
Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Clement Ngbo, said the drive to achieve food security should be a collective effort.
Chief Ngbo urged farmers in the state to use various state government interventions to expand their farms.
