Electricity consumers have been advised to always seek the services of qualified staff of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC when in need of maintenance on electrical installations.


The advice is coming on the heels of the reported death of a man said to be a native of Nimo, and working at a step-down transformer base in Abba, both in Njikoka Local government area of Anambra state.


The victim was reportedly working at the electrical installation in the area when electric power was suddenly restored, leading to his death.


Mr. Emeka Eze, Head, Communications, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, who regretted the avoidable loss of live, however explained that the deceased was not a staff of the EEDC.


Describing electricity as a hazard, Mr. Eze maintained that qualified staff of EEDC are always advised to observe safety measures while working on electrical installations.


He noted that activities of disengaged staff of defunct NEPA, Electricians and Electrical Engineers are challenges to the company, adding that the incident was a sad reminder.


Joseph Egbeocha reports that efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, on the incident failed as the identity of the deceased is still unknown.
