Today is Public Holiday in the Anambra State.
It is observed to honour and immortalize Nigeria’s only indigenous Governor General and first President, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe who committed his entire life to ensure the Independence, sovereignty and unity of Africa’s most populous black nation.
The Anambra State Government had in a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Willie Obinao, Mr. James Eze made the declaration to immortalize the great zik of Africa whose post homous birthday was on Novermber sixteen, a Saturday . According to the statement, November sixteen has been set aside in Anambra State to commemorate the ideals and legacies of one of Africa’s greatest icons as more calls are made on the Federal Government to declare it a National Holiday.
This is in the culture of countries like Ghana where a day was set out to honour Kwame Nkurumah , Kenya, to celebrate Jomoh Kenyatta, Tanzania to commemorate Julius Nyere, Angola for Agostinho Neto and United States of America for Martin Luther King Junior.
