It was a celebration of life well spent as the body of Late Mrs. Agnes Igwenagu Okeke was laid to rest at her husband’s compound, Umuezeokpu village, Nawfija, Orumba South Council Area of the State.


Late Mrs. Igwenagu – Okeke who was a devout Christian drew people from all walks of life who came to pay her last respect and commiserate with the family.


Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Nawfija, the venue of the requiem mass was filled to capacity as top government officials, men of the Clergy, Reverend Sisters, Security Personnel, Friends and well wishers converged at the church to join Okeke’s family for the burial of their mother.


In a homily during the burial mass, the Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Most Reverend Dr Anselm Umeorim, said people mourn because, death separates them from their loved ones but it is important to show gratitude to God for a departed one whose faith was strong for God has called her for a banquet in heaven.


Most Revered Dr Umeorim maintained that funeral homily is not for the dead but for those living so as to know that one day, they will lay lifeless and judgement follows thereafter.


He asked all to be in preparation noting that that Late Mrs. Igwenagu -Okeke was known for her dedication to God and asked her family to uphold her legacies.
While Commiserating with the Okeke Family, Governor Willie Obiano said that the exit of a loved one is always painful, reminding them that death is a necessary end for all mortals.


Governor Obiano represented by the State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, told the family not to mourn like people of little faith rather they should, take solace in the Lord for their mother died at a ripe old age.


In his condolence message, a relation to the bereaved family, and one time Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, said in as much as they grieve for the death, they show gratitude to God for the deceased lived an impactful life and was on pilgrimage to the holy land, adding that she was so prayerful and testified that she is resting in God’s bossom.


In an interview with the ABS, Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, described the deceased as a virtuous woman who always show charity and accommodate all around her, saying that he is not in doubt that she is resting in God’s vineyard.


For the first daughter of late Mrs. Igwenagu- Okeke, Mrs. Ngozi Okeke-Okwubanego said her mother lived a life of faith, generosity, unshakeable faith in God and feeding the poor, assuring that her legacies will be upheld both by her siblings and all their relations . Late Mrs. Igwenagu Okeke died at the age of eighty one while interment and other condolences added colour to the burial rites.
