Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) swept various categories of awards during the Anambra Media Excellence Award which held in Awka on Wednesday night, 27th November 2019.
Top on the award is the Best Television Station 2019 which was won by the ABS.
Spelling Bee, an ABS radio and television children’s programme anchored Saturdays by Sandra Akpua won the Radio Programme programme of the year 2019 , While Good Morning Anambra won the Best Television Programme of the Year 2019.
Also, Mrs Ijeoma Uche of the ABS won the Best Television Presenter of the year 2019 award.
On individual recognition category, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba, was given recognition for his immense contributions to media development in Anambra state.
Others who were recognised for their contributions to media growth and development are the Managing Director/CEO of ABS , Chief Uche Nworah, Mrs Nonye Nwokoye of the Programmes Department , ABS, Mr Ifeanyi Aniagoh, SSA on Digital Entrepreneurship to the Governor. of Anambra state, Emeka Odogwu Emeka, I- witness media crew, Igwe Rowland Odegbo among many others.
Receiving the award, the commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba represented by Mr Ifeanyi Aniagoh said the event is a welcome development especially as Governor Obiano has provided the enabling environment and opportunity for media workers to explore, evident in how he turned ABS to the best digital radio and television station in the country.
Speaking at the event, the Co—Chairman, Board of Directors of ABS and the traditional ruler of Nteje , Igwe Rowland Odegbo appreciated the organisers of the event for deeming it fit to appreciate those who have worked hard to inform the public, charging reporters to always give factual and accurate reportage towards the growth and development of the state.
The Managing Director of the ABS, Chief Nworah, expressed satisfaction that the ABS came tops in many categories because of the efforts of the Governor in ensuring that ABS has everything it needs to work excellently.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the National President, Association of Digital Media Core Advocates (ADMCA), Ogbuefi Harris Chuma, said the event was aimed at celebrating and honouring outstanding men and women who are making the Anambra media Industry proud.
Kenechukwu Ofoma of WAZOBIA FM, formerly of ABS won the Best Reporter of The Year 2019 award, while Omega FM Umuchu clinched the Best Radio Station of the Year 2019 award.
