Anambra State is to host a maiden edition of Nigeria reggae festival, next month.


The reggae festival which will hold from the twenty-eighth to thirtieth December, 2019, is being organized by the State Government in partnership with Music Africa Awake, MUAFA and It is expected to attract renowned reggae artistes from all over the country and beyond.


According to the MUAFA President, Vincent Omoko and the President, Royal Black Family, a pro-reggae group, Chidi Chidi-Umeh, reggae is all about love, peace and unity and the festival targets to preach and inculcate the virtues in Nigerians.


In an address, the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artwork, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Sally Mbanefo said that now is the perfect time for such events to help put an end to the violence and hostilities witnessed across the country.


She stated that indigenous artists will be given opportunity to showcase their talents as dignitaries like Emir of Kano, Oni of Ife, Obi of Onitsha among others are expected to grace the occasion.


Earlier while addressing the press during Nigeria Reggae Festival Media Launch in Awka, the founder of Music Africa Awake, Prince Emeka Ojukwu noted that reggae music plays a vital role in every socio-political environment given the strong message it carries.


On his part, the Traditional Ruler of Alor, Igwe Mac-Anthony Okonkwo assured of maximum support from the traditional rulers council as the idea is to promote peace, unity and love and as well to support and encourage indigenous artists.
