The maiden edition of a  friendly match between Anambra State Executive Council members and House of Assembly members has ended in one-one draw.

The two teams which played under  Team Exco and Team ASHA, played for fourty minutes  at Government Technical College Field , Awka.

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana was there for the ABS and reports that  the kick off of the match  was performed by the State Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, who said that the exercise  provided opportunity to further promote understanding between the arms of government.

The Deputy Governor  explained  that Governor Obiano is very passionate about synergy  among the arms of government, which he said deepens democracy  and good governance .

The first goal was scored by Team ASHA by the member representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Mr Douglas Egbuna at exactly ten minutes into the first half.

Team Exco later equalized by scoring  through  the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Mr Mark Okoye.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Uchenna Okafor who also doubles as the captain of Team ASHA, stressed that apart from promoting unity between the two arms, the health benefits of such exercise is enormous, and encouraged other institutions, parastatals and government agencies to toe the line.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Sir Willie Nwokoye, Chief of Staff to the Governor Mr Primus  Odili described in their separate remarks  commended the initiative, expressing optimism that it would  be sustained.


The match was organized by the State Sports Development Commission under the Chairmanship of Chief Tony Oli who said that the essence of the match was to promote unity  among  the participants and announced that the judiciary and other  agencies will still participate in due time.
