Otú Sụbakwa Igbo Nigeria, a voluntary, non-political, non- religious, non-governmental organization formed for the purpose promoting use of Igbo language has celebrated her end of the year party in Awka, yesterday.
The event kicked off with a short service while soul-lifting Christmas hymns and prayers was rendered to herald the occasion.
Members of the organization dressed in sparkling igbo cultural attire to depict their dressing style as part of ways of reviving Igbo cultural heritage as speakers at the events reechoed the need to promote Igbo language.
In his speech during the occasion, the President, Otu Sụbakwa Igbo, Professor Pita Ejiofor, condemned the use of English language in conducting event within Igboland.
Professor Ejiofor who appealed to government in Igbo states to put more measures in place towards ensuring that Igbo language did no plunge into extinction, urged ndị Igbo to take pride in their language at every occasion.
In his remark, the Anambra State President of Ohaneze Ndị Igbo, Chief Okeke Ogene, said that language promote culture while it defines the people, their thinking and way of life.
He noted with dismay that the language is going into extinction because people feel that speaking English raises their status in the society.
In his speech, the traditional ruler of Nawgu, Igwe George Okah, thanked Otu Sụbakwa Igbo for their achievements in reviving Igbo language and urged the people to protect their language which is their heritage.
Earlier in a sermon, the Treasurer of the organization , Reverend Cannon Patrick Okoye, cautioned Ndigbo against disunity, saying it would only hinder their progress.
The ABS Director, News and Current Affairs, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, and other various stakeholders graced the occasion.
