Forty-seven graduates of College of Medicine, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Amaku-Awka, have been inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
Speaking at the event in Awka, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr.Vincent Okpala, said the government of Dr. Willie Obiano is leaving no stone unturned in providing quality healthcare services for the citizenry.

The Health Commissioner, while assuring of sustained efforts by the state government in revamping the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Okukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, noted that the new set of medical doctors will boost quality healthcare delivery for Ndi-Anambra.
He explained that measures are being put in place to retain the doctors for the benefit of Ndi-Anambra, adding that demands of existing doctors in the Teaching Hospital are receiving the state government’s attention.

The Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Greg Nwakoby, enjoined the new doctors to be good ambassadors of the institution.
Represented by Professor Solomon Ekwenze, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the state government for its continued support in achieving the university’s mandate.
In his address, the Provost, College of Medicine, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Amaku-Awka, Professor Walter Nwafia, said despite numerous challenges, including strikes, the institution has continued to maintained timely completion of academic programs, in addition to uninterrupted residency program in many departments of the college.

He listed other needs of the college to include, academic staff, office accommodation, adequate funding, among others.
Later the induction lecturer, Professor Ernest Onwuasoigwe, described man as a tripartite being that requires care in body, soul and spirits, adding that social disharmony, patient’s abhorrence of medical intervention on religious basis, refusal of organ donation are some of the challenges encountered in medical practice, which sustained advocacy can address.
The best graduating student, Dr. Ebuka Gideon Obiasor, who spoke on behalf of others, assured their readiness to impact positively on the society expressing optimism that Nigerian health sector will be given the needed attention to stem the tide of brain drain plaguing the sector.
Oath taking and presentation of cash rewards to outstanding Doctors formed the highpoint of the event attended by the Honourable Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, the state Chairman of APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, among others.
