His Grace International Secondary School Okija and St Patrick’s College Okija have emerged the overall Champions in the Junior and Senior Category of Okija Best Brain Contest.
The quiz competition which took place at Saint Peters Stadium Okija, was organized by Ezejiamatu Foundation for all the secondary Schools in Okija, to test and increase intellectual competitiveness among the students.
Ezejiamatu Foundation is a non- governmental organization that was established on the seventh of November this year with the primary objective of extending a helping hand to the downtrodden.
At the end of the competition during which the participating schools were tested in Igbo Language and Mathematics, His Grace International Secondary School Okija came first in junior category, Royal International Secondary School clinched the second position and Union Secondary School got third position.
In the Senior Category, Saint Patrick’s College Okija clinched first position, Royal International Secondary School and Okija Grammar School took second and third positions, respectively.
Some representatives of the schools, including Daniela Udemezue, Chinonso Nwabunike, Charles Obi and Kosisochukwu Obinwa, said that the Competition aided their individual abilities and equally encouraged them to study harder, praying God to Bless the Founder of Ezejiamatu Foundation.
Addressing the students, the Founder of the Foundation, Chief Nnamdi Emechebe, said that he had passion to compliment the efforts of government in helping indigent children, widows and less privileged people in the society to ameliorate their plights as well as give back to the society.
In their separate reactions, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Secondary Education, Dr Paul Ifeanyi, Former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Bridget Obi, the Chairman on the occasion, Dr Izuchukwu Obiadi and the Chairman Actors Guild of Nigeria, Mr. Leo Ewuzie, commended the Founder for organizing the quiz competition for the students of Okija, noting that it will help them appreciate the importance of Igbo Language and Mathematics education, and advised the students to be more dedicated to their studies.
On his part, the Coordinator of the Foundation and moderator of the quiz, Mr. Frank Igbojindu, explained that the quiz Competition aimed at awakening the students’ activeness in Igbo Language and Mathematics and provided opportunity to assess their level in academic work.
The competition featured award one year scholarship to the best contestants, presentation of certificates of participation to them as well as cash prize to the teachers of the best participated schools.
