With just two days to Christmas, most Anambra communities are beginning to reflect the abiding presence of the Yuletide, with decorations and sing songs.
A visit to one of the catholic churches at Abatete, in Idemili North local government area, Most Holy Name of Mary, which happens to be the oldest church out of the five catholic churches in the town, we discovered that the Christmas breeze has enveloped and engulfed the entire place.
The church premises and congregation were seen radiating with the aura of the season, even as the compound and trees therein wear ornaments and buntings reminiscence of the celebration of the birth of the child Jesus.
Earlier, a visiting priest, Rev Fr Donald Udeaja, who ia a student of Catholic Institute of West Africa(CIWA) Port Harcourt had preached in one of the masses.
In his homily from a reading from the holy gospel according to St Mathew 1:18-24, he titled “Obedience of Faith”, Fr Udeaja highlighted and stressed the importance of faith and obedience in the life of a christian.
He spoke with reference to the obedience of St Joseph to the angel of the Lord to accept Virgin Mary as his wife even when he found out she was pregnant, which made the Lord to establish Joseph.
The priest called on the entire human race to have a total and absolute faith in God and to obey the teachings of Christ for a purposeful and fulfilled life.
Advent is the period of preparation as we commemorate the coming of Jesus Christ into the world as fulfilment of the word of the prophets in the old testament.
