The State Government has assured its commitment to beefing-up the state security architecture to guarantee a hitch free yuletide.


Governor Willie Obiano gave the assurance at the memorial thanksgiving Mass of late Chief Simeon Okafor and Mrs. Caroline Okafor, the parents of the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Uche Okafor held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, Ifite-Ogwari, Ayamelum local government area.


House of Assembly correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that Governor Obiano represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke expressed satisfaction that the huge investment his administration made in security has placed Anambra State as the safest in Nigeria.


Governor Obiano described the late Chief Okafor, who was a member of the old Anambra State House of Assembly as a distinguished parliamentarian that left his footprint in the sands of time.


In his remark, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Oye commended the seventh Assembly under the leadership of Mr. Okafor for their unity of purpose and the harmonious working relationship between the Executive and Legislative Arms of Government which has resulted in the unprecedented development of Anambra State.


In a vote of thanks, the Speaker, Mr. Okafor said that the memorial thanksgiving Mass was designed to remember and honour his late parents, who gave him proper upbringing and thank God for his goodness in his life.


He assured that the House will continue to enact quality laws that will facilitate good governance of the state.


Earlier in a homily, the Parish Priest, Reverend Father Joachim Igwe, enjoined Christians to live a life of thanksgiving in order to experience breakthrough in all their afflictions.


In an interview, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Pius Udo, who thanked God for the lives of late Simeon and Caroline Okafor revealed that the leadership qualities of their son has sustained the unity in Anambra State House of Assembly.


The member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr Pete Ibida and the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr. Emeka Ezenwanne described the Speaker as a dynamic leader, who has recorded legendary performance within few months in office.


The thanksgiving mass was graced by members of the State Executive Council, members of Anambra State House of Assembly, the Senator representing Anambra South at the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Uba, member representing Anambra East and West in the House of Representatives, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Soludo among others.
