Christmas is a day Christians all over the world commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The meaning of Christmas comes in the remembrance and celebration of God’s presence in the world through Jesus.
Religion correspondent, Amaka Okoye repoprts that Christmas is also extensively celebrated by non-Christians as a seasonal holiday, on which popular traditions such as gift giving, feasting and Caroling take place.
Although the actual date of Christ birth is unknown, Christmas has been symbolically celebrated on the Twenty-fifth of December since the fourth century.
The Vicar, Church of the Holy Spirit Awka, Venerable Rex Kalu, who reminded Christians the reason for the season, noted that Yuletide celebration is a period to show love and extend benevolence to the less privilege in the society.
Venerable Kalu, who bemoaned the rate of uncivil act in the society, frowned at the hike of prices of commodities noting that it made the season a time of sorrow to some people.
Several services and Holy Masses will be held today by Christians all over the world to commemorate the day.
