The Association of Anambra Women in United States of America ASA USA, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministries of Health and Diaspora Affairs have commenced its Walk to end cancer in Anambra state.


The walk which started from the Anambra Broadcasting Service Cooperate Headquarters down to Government House in Awka aims at creating awareness on the dangers of cancer and how best for people to take care of their health by eating right, exercising regularly and routine medical examination to detect cancer at its early stage for better management and treatment.


The National President of the body, Dr. Uche Umeh who spoke at the event reiterated the importance of ending the cancer scourge in the society starting with Anambra state, hence the efforts to set up a cancer treatment center in the state at Amichi, Nnewi South council area.


She said that aggressive education on will prevention of the scour.
The seminar which has its theme as: “2019 Walk For Hope and Fight To End Cancer,” had the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi and Dr. Mrs. Chioma Ezenyimulu educating and sensitizing the people on proper health practices and prevention reminded women of the need for self breast examination, regular check up and healthy lifestyle.


Some cancer survivors; including Mrs. Kate Egwuonwu and Mrs. Francisca Mmouneke noted that early detection and treatment are the best ways to treat and survive cancer, advising women to regularly examine their breast for cancer lumps after their monthly cycle.


The event also witnessed the presentation of medals and awards to deserving personalities, including the Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano represented by MD/CEO Anambra state Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, The MD/CEO of ABS, Chief Uche Nworah also represented by the Head of Engineering of the Establishment, Mr. Paul Okoye for their continued support and partnership, among others.
