Anambra state government has directed street markets to relocate to approval sites.


A release signed by the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Honourable Uchenna Okafor said that street markets contribute in no small measure to robbery in the markets, fire incidents, traffic congestion and littering of the environment.


It stated that Governor Willie Obiano directed that the markets should relocate to their various well structured markets with upgraded facilities with effect from Monday sixth January 2020.


The markets are, vegetable street traders operating at Coca-cola and along Army Gate to move to Fruit and Vegetable Market Ogbaru, Shoe Manufacturers operating at Obodoukwu street to relocate to new shoe site at Ogbunike, Nkwelle junction, Synthetic and Fabric materials traders to fabric Market Ogidi, Stock Fish Dealers operating at Akunnia Njote, Woliwo will move to Stock Fish Market Kilometer Thirteen Onitsha-Owerri road, Cosmetics and Provision Market to move to their New suite at Ogbunike, Electronics market at Nnwei to move to their permanent site at Agba-Edo Market Nnewi and Ozumagala and Ezenwekwe Street to move to Building Materials International Market Ogidi.


The release stated that relocating the traders to their new site will reduce inconveniences to motorists, robbery within the markets, fire incidents and enhance the aesthetics of environment.
