In line with Governor Willie Obiano’s “Akulueuno call, The Ogazi Foundation, has been inaugurated by a philanthropist, Dr Chidi Okoye.
Speaking at the event, which coincided with Dr Okoye’s Golden jubilee celebration, the Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, called on affluent individuals to always assist the less privileged in the society.
The Deputy Governor who described Dr Okoye as resourceful person with strong commitment to achieving results maintained that life is a lottery, which God dispenses as He chooses, adding that humanity is incomplete without giving back to the society.
Giving accounts of Dr Okoye’s philanthropy even before the inauguration of the foundation, some beneficiaries, including Miss Chioma Enunwoke, a Microbiology graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the Headmistress of Obioma Central School, Enugwu-Agidi, Mrs Bennedeth Igboaka, narrated how God used Dr Okoye to nurture her dreams and that of little Miss Oluebube Stephen.
In their separate comments, the Chairman on the occasion, Chief Cosmas Agagbo, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Creative Arts, Radio and Television, Mr. Marcel Manafa and Mr. Olisa Aniuno, described The Ogazi Foundation as a worthy course, which all public-spirited individuals must support in the interest of humanity, thanking God for sparing the life of Dr Okoye, after a spinal cord injury.
In his emotion-laden remarks, Dr Okoye, who is also the President-General of Enugwu-Agidi community in Njikoka Local Government area, narrated how God used people of his community, friends and Governor Willie Obiano to save him from the clutches of death, following a spinal cord injury he sustained which he said motivated him to conceive The Ogazi Foundation, as a little way of appreciating God’s uncommon grace in his life, promising that the foundation will outlive him and other members of the foundation.
Highpoints of the event include a donation to The Ogazi Foundation by Mr. Aniuno, and offer of scholarship up to university level to little Master David Okoye, who dedicated a poem to Dr Chidi Okoye.
