The 2020 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebration has ended in Anambra with wreath laying and parade ceremonies.


The event, held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square Awka, had officers and men of various security agencies that make-up the Nigerian Armed Forces in attendance.


The event provided the opportunity to reflect on the achievements, challenges, responsibilities, and demands of the Nigerian Armed Forces for effective service delivery and strengthening of Nigeria’s security apparatus.


It also provided the participants the opportunity to pay respect to fallen heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the country.


In a remark, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr.
Nkem Okeke acknowledged that the Nigerian Armed Forces has proven itself worthy of the annual recognition through effective protection of the Nigeria’s territorial integrity, and ensuring of peace and unity in the country, hence the need to provide them with enabling environment and logistics to operate more efficiently
The Governor called on the general public to always provide security agencies with necessary information, which he described as paramount for effective security.


Also speaking, the Chairman Nigeria Legion, Anambra state Chapter, Major Ifeanyichukwu Nwankwo, retired, called on government at all levels and private individuals and groups to assist the Nigerian Armed Forces.


On his part, the Managing Director, Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Mr. Jude Emecheta while commending men and officers of the Nigeria Armed Forces on their various sacrifices for the protection of life and property of Nigerians, advocated that the federal government should modify the Nigerian Armed Forces through proper equipment and attention to the welfare of the officers.


The event featured inspection of parade mounted by the Nigerian Army, Navy, and the Nigerian Legion, two minutes silence-short prayers for the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces, and wreath laying.


Others who graced the occasion were the Speaker, Anambra state House of Assembly, Honourable Uchenna Okafor, Acting Chief Judge of Anambra state, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba, among others.
