War veterans have continued to share their experiences of
Nigeria-Biafran war in commemoration of the fifty years anniversary of
Nigerian civil War .

A ninety-two year old civil war veteran, Pa Benedict Oragui said he
worked at the Forestry Department when the war started and they were
co-opted into the Biafran army.

He said he was at Ebenebe within Awka axis when the Nigeria Army
entered the Eastern Nigeria through the Benue-Nssukka route, adding
that he was among the troop that brought Radio Biafra from Enugu to
Umuahia but expressed regrets that all the promises made during the
reconciliation process were not met.

On his part, Pa John Nwafor Ijedibia who is eighty-four years old said
he fought as a Biafran soldier at Nkpor Junction and was among the
troop that mounted surveillance at Ogbor-hill, an area between Aba and
Opobo.

He said an average Biafran soldier suffered humiliation as the stipend
of eight pounds was shortchanged by the pay master reducing it to
seven pounds, ten shillings.

According to him, apart from the reconstruction of the Niger Bridge,
no other significant project took place after fifty years.

Staff reporter, Blessing Ijedibia who interacted with the war
veterans, reports that they were filled with regrets and prayed
against a repeat of war in Nigeria.
