Governor Willie Obiano says his administration will continue to partner with the legislature in uplifting the standard of education in Anambra State.


Governor Obiano gave the assurance during the 2020 Edition of the Anambra West Students Back To School Programme, organized by the member representing Anambra West Constituency, Sir Patrick Obalum-Ekwealor held in Umueze Anam.


According to Governor Obiano, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Dr. Gloria Oguguo, his administration has invested enormous resources to uplift the standard of education in the State, especially in schools located in hard to reach and disadvantaged Local Government Areas, including Anambra West and as well increased remunerations for teachers working in the said Local Government Areas.


Governor Obiano further assured that his administration will continue to synergize with the legislature in ensuring that the State maintains it’s position as the light of the nation in terms of academic excellence, among other things and commended Sir Patrick for his effective representation of his people.


The Education Secretary, Anambra West Local Government Education Authority, Sir. Joseph Udoba, while thanking the legislator for his uncommon magnanimity, noted that within the short period the lawmaker has represented the constituency, he has outclassed all his predecessors, and appealed for employment of more teachers in the local government for effective teaching and learning.


In a speech, the sponsor of the programme, Sir Patrick said that he started the exercise when he was a transition committee member of the local government, and promised that he will sustain the exercise which he said will be an annual event.


Some of the dignitaries that graced the event were the traditional ruler of Umuoba Anam, Igwe Sir. George Ekwealor, his Ukwalla counterpart, Igwe Joseph Ajodo, Professor Jaja Nwannegbo of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, political appointees, transition committee members of Anambra West, APGA stalwarts in the area, students and pupils teachers and parents among others.


The event featured distribution of over ten thousand exercise books, pen and pencils, as well as other educational materials.
