An Eleven-year-old Miss Chikamsi Okechukwu, from Ichida, in Anaocha Local Government Area, born with cleft lip will undergo a free corrective surgery at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, on Wednesday next week.


Blessing Uchendu reports that the treatment which is carried out on children with cleft lips and pallet is courtesy of a partnership between Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, Cafe, the Non-Governmental Organization of the Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano and Smile Train Incorporated, a New York based Non-Governmental Organization that provides free treatment and surgeries for children with Cleft lips and pallet across eighty-seven Countries.


Miss Chikamsi, a Basic Four pupil of God is Able Primary School, Fegge Onitsha, while narrating her ordeal, said that her condition makes her not to feel free in associating with her fellow students as well as finding it difficult to speak fluently.


She thanked Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano for intervening in her situation, praying for God’s Blessings upon her.


The Grandmother to Chikamsi, Mrs Eunice Okechukwu, who described the wife of the Governor as a woman with a heart of gold and expressed happiness that her eleven year granddaughter with a lip deformity would look better after the surgery.


In their various contributions, the Headmaster of the School, Mr Chukwunwike Ndukaihe, her class teacher, Miss Uju Unaeze and her classmate Ijeoma Nkwodu, thanked Dr Mrs Obiano for remembering the indigent and appealed to affluent individuals to seek a fulfilled life by touching the life of the people around them.
