The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested two hundred and forty-nine persons suspected for various drug crimes in the year 2019.
Thirty seven of them were convicted.
In a release signed by the Public Relations officer of the Agency in Awka, Mr. Charles Odigie, the State Commander of the Agency, Mr. Misbahu Idris also revealed that it seized four-hundred-twenty-nine-point-five-nine-eight-eight kilogrammes of hard drugs.
According to the release, Cannabis Sativa popularly known as “Indian hemp” got the largest chunk of the seizures with three-hundred-and-fifty-six kilogrammes while sixty-nine-point-zero-point-three kilogrammes Crystaline methaphythamine also known as “mkpuru mmiri” were seized.
Also, other seizures include Heroine with zero-point-zero-six-three kilogrammes and cocaine seized was
zero-point-zero-zero–two-two-three-kilogrammes It also revealed that the Command has one-hundred-and-twenty-four pending cases in the Federal High Court, Awka and Court of Appeal, Enugu.
The State Commander of NDLEA, Mr. Idris applauded the support of Governor Willie Obiano in the fight against trafficking and abusedrug as well as insecurity in the State while warning those involved in illicit drug activities to desist from the lifestyle or face the wrath of the Law.
