The traditional ruler of Atani, Ogbaru council area, Igwe Austin Ngoddy, says UNESCO’s assertion that the Igbo language may become extinct in twenty years should be a source of worry for all Ndi Igbo.


The traditional ruler who made the assertion while interacting with Ekwi Ajide in Abuja said there’s need for all hands to be on deck in promoting Igbo language and culture.


According to him, people’s culture are their identity as people without culture are like a lost sheep which has no direction.


He advised that no matter where one resides, one should always promote and protect their tradition.


Igwe Ngoddy, stressed that even those born and bred in the Western World, should be tutored to know everything about their culture.


The traditional ruler stated that it is the duty of parents, the church and community to lead in the promotion of Igbo language.
