Low participation greeted the first monthly sanitation excise in 2020 in some areas in Onitsha metropolis,
Staff Reporter Blessing Ijedibia who monitored the excise in parts of Inland town and Awka reports that greater percentage of the residents were seen going about their normal business during the period slated for the sanitation.
At half past seven in the morning vehicle’s especially tricycles were seen at Awka road conveying passengers to their various destinations.
Other petty business operators such as Akara sellers, food vendors among others attended to their customers who lined up waiting to be attended to.
Scores of passengers were sported at Savoy-Omagba junction waiting for vehicles to convey them to their destinations.
However residents of a building in Osuma came out in their numbers cleaning and clearing their environment.
Commenting on the monthly exercise, Chief Denis Mmora, said government’s vision in initiating the monthly sanitation is a welcome development saying that clean environment keeps sickness as away.
On their parts Messrs Paul Omeariri and Martin Nwankwo, cautioned those who view monthly sanitation as a mere routine to turn a new leaf this year as clean environment is a collective responsibility.
