The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change Agency.


The bill which is sponsored by the Executive Arm of Government was passed during yesterdays plenary.

that the Majority Leader of the House, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor explained that the bill establishes the Anambra State Agency for Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change for execution of the general directives and policies of the State Government in relation to watershed and erosion control in the state.


Speaker of the House, Honourable Uche Okafor read out the bill for the third time, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.


Also at plenary, the House passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Wealth Creation to urgently reconstitute the Anambra State Taskforce on Substandard Goods and Counterfeit Drugs with a view to combating the massive influx of substandard Goods and Counterfeit Drugs in all the markets in Anambra State.


The member representing Oyi Constituency, Mr Charles Obimma who sponsored the motion expressed concern that fake drugs and substandard goods are purchased by unsuspecting members of the public who in turn do not derive utility from the money spent together with other attendant problems associated with the use of fake drugs and substandard goods, while the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Chief Obinna Emeneka called on the people to always buy drugs from certified Pharmacists to avoid consumption of unwholesome drugs that endanger their health.


Similarly, the House passed another resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Transport to stop indiscriminate driving and parking along the streets without loading points by tricycle operators in Onitsha and other parts of the state so as to obtain the optimum benefit of tricycle in the state.


Sponsoring the motion, the member representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Mr Douglas Egbuna, lamented that activities of tricycle riders deteriorate on daily basis leading to accidents and casualties.
