5 People Arrested For Assaulting Officials Of ANSPPB At Agulu And Umudioka

About five persons have been arrested for allegedly assaulting government officials and destroying their vehicles in Anaocha and Dunukofia Council Areas.

They were  arrested   when the team of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, ANSPPB visited Ifite-Ani village Agulu in Anaocha  and Umudioka in Dunukofia Council areas.

Correspondent Ejike Abana reports that the arrest   followed the constant report of assault , vandalization of vehicles and brutality on staff of Anambra State Physical Planning Board   on official duties by hoodlums and workers at various parts of the state, which sometimes land many of them in hospital  with  serious injuries  on them .

On arrival at the sites, the workers on sighting the officials of the Board took to their heels, abandoning their belongings and work..

In his speech,  the Executive Chairman of ANSPPB, Barrister Chike Mmadukwe who regretted the countless humiliations and assaults faced by the Board’s staff in different parts of the State, recalled that on Monday 11th February 2020, a team from his agency approached  the developer at Ifite-Ani village Agulu requesting for development permit but were given the beating of their lives and government properties were destroyed .

Barrister Mmadukwe made it clear  that gone are the days when developers threaten government officials with the presumption  that they are harmless and stated  that the arrest will be regular to cut the excesses of developers who build without permit thereby diverting government revenue and endangering lives.

Contributing, the General Manager ANSPPB, Mr. Nwabufo Anene said that the constant abuses of  staff of the Agency if not controlled will keep them off duty which made it necessary for the agency to restrategize on ways of protecting and punishing developers who have no respect for constituted authority stressing that the state is not a lawless state.

Mr. Anene said  that those arrested will be arraigned in  court and if found guilty will  face the full wrath of the law, advising developers to comply with the building regulations and guildlines   and ensure that they  obtain their building permit before embarking on any development.
