The need to maximize an outstanding family planning system to improve the health and welfare of family group and contribute effectively to the social development of Anambra State and Nigeria at large has been highlighted.
This formed the core of discussion at the stakeholder’s strategic ‘demand generation’ workshop in Awka comprising representatives from religious groups, line ministries, and women groups amongst others.
Onyinye Agubaeze reports that the training was organized by the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with The Challenge Initiative, to strategize on effective family planning.
Speaking in an interview with the ABS, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Oficer Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Mrs. Chioma Ezenyimulu and the Director of Public Health and Disease Control, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr. Uchechukwu Ejemba, explained that family planning method is one of the tools for prevention of maternal mortality and enhancement of the economic status of the family unit.
They said that adequate sensitization has been carried out in family planning in Anambra state while wide range of family planning services are being made available to all health facilities across the state .
A member of the committee, Hajia Kadijat Olahun said the training is geared towards improving the skills of the stakeholders to sensitize the people effectively on the need to promote family planning noting that the sensitization has been made effective as religious leaders have been educated on the need for family planning.
She urged Muslim faithful to embrace Family planning to promote the health of the people .
Also speaking, the Chairman, Anambra Civil Service Network, Prince Chris Azoh, said that over time, family planning has taken a backseat in government activities especially budgeting and observed that the goal of the workshop is to map out a strategic document to mobilize people to access family planning method to achieve social development.
