Traders at Ose Okwodu market, Onitsha and New Tyres market, Nkpor, have been sensitized on the outbreak of lassa fever in Nigeria and the dangers of Coronavirus, currently ravaging parts of the world.

Addressing traders at the various markets, during a sensitization visit, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Orientation and Special Duties, Mrs. Ify Obinabo lamented that cure for the two deadly diseases are yet to be discovered. 

Exposing traders on the mode of transmission of the disease, Mrs. Obinabo warned them to desist from contact with rodents, identified as the main carrier of the diseases. She also listed contact with saliva and fluid of an infected person, consumption of raw food that may have been infected with wastes from rats among other possible ways of contracting the disease. 

The Special Adviser who urged traders to declare war against rats in their homes and business places encouraged them to embrace general hygiene such as regular washing of hands and use of sanitizers, proper covering of cooked and uncooked food as well as kitchen utensils.       Speaking on the need for all to imbibe positive attitudinal change that will enthrone Peace in the state, Mrs. Obinabo advised the traders to take ownership of government’s facilities in their areas. She also advised the traders to ensure that they have fire extinguisher in their shops so as to contend with any emergency fire outbreak, noting that there is also the need for everyone to put off Electric switch, bulb and appliances at the end of their business to avoid possible fire outbreak.   During the sensitization program  some members of the sensitization team displayed placards with inscriptions; “War against lassa fever and corona virus”, “keep your environment clean” among others.
