Traders in various Markets across Anambra State have been advised to avoid acts that could disrupt relative peace in their areas.

Anambra State Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Uchenna Okafor gave the advise while addressing members of Ochanja Market Stakeholders and Elders Committee, who staged a peaceful protest at the Government House Awka.

The protest by members of the Ochanja Market Stakeholders and Elders committee was over an alleged statement by the incumbent Chairman of the market Chief Nelson Ojukwu, whose tenure will elapse in two weeks, but said he will continue with members of his executive as caretaker committee for two years afterwards.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as, “Ochanja Market is not for sale”, “Governor Willie Obiano please come to our aid”, among others.

Addressing the protesters Mr Okafor who commended members of the committee for the wise move they made towards ensuring continuous peace in the market, warned them against acts that could truncate the efforts and commitment of the Obiano government towards ensuing peaceful coexistence across the State.

He assured them that the government will urgently look into the matter with a view to resolving it.

Mr Okafor maintained that election in the Market will be conducted in due time.

The Chairman of the Ochanja Market Stakeholders and Elders committee, Mr Oliver Nwankwo who re-assured of their unalloyed support to the Obiano government, appreciated the Commissioner for his kind words and pleaded for urgent intervention of the government in the matter.
