Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency has rehabilitated some dilapidated roads at Modebe Avenue Onitsha, to ensure free human and vehicular movements.
The exercise was carried out with two Durapatcher pothole repair machines.
Mr Martin Nwogbo, a Civil Engineer working with Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, said the use of Durapatcher is faster, stressing that it could handle fifty potholes in a day, depending on the size of the potholes.
Mr Nwogbo, listed stages of road maintenance to include cleaning debris off the affected area, applying a combination of gravel and bitumen with Durapatches machine, which serves as a binder between the existing road and gravel.
He explained that the bitumen, black substance emulsion was usually boiled at sixty-five degree centigrade and would be spread with half inch chippings on the pothole while using Roller machine to compact the road.
Mr Nwogbo, enjoined road users to avoid dumping of refuse on roads and drainages, noting that burning of tyres on roads weakens the asphalt which in turn adversely affects life span of roads.
Mr Austin Ekezie, a Tricyclist in the area, described the road rehabilitation as a welcome development.
Mr Ifeanyi Okoye, an electronics dealer said that Modebe Avenue was repaired last year, lamenting that flood adversely affected the road during the rainy season, and suggested that a proper supervision should be done on the road to achieve desired results.
